Forestry Technician 1 (Seasonal)

The selected candidate will be a field technician working with Division of Lands and Forest in Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health. This position will also work with Hemlock Wooley Adelgid, Oak Wilt, Kudzu and various forest health programs on Long Island and Cross New York State. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Walking long distances and navigate in all types of terrain. - Conducting ground surveys for Southern Pine Beetle (SPB). - Conducting aerial surveys for invasive Species in a small aircraft. - Leading field crews to suppress SPB infestations by cutting infested pitch pine trees. - Assisting with prescribed fire. - Providing outreach to the general public and local government officials about forest health and invasive species. - Assisting with forest health research projects. - Assisting in other forest health and invasive species management. - Inspecting forestry work done by contractors. Will be required to operate chainsaws, off road vehicles, and skid steers.

Salary Range:
From $17 to $17 Hourly
Minimum Qualification
Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including twelve (12) semester credit hours in forestry, which must include at least one course in three or more of the following areas:
botany, dendrology, forest biology, forest ecology, forest ecosystem management, forest entomology, forest health, forest mensuration, forest pathology, forest protection, forest soils, general soils, geographic information systems, land surveying, and silviculture OR One (1) year of technical forestry experience in one (1) or more of the following areas:
forest management, including sale and removal of timber products; nursery management, including the transplanting of tree or shrub seedlings; forest pest management, including control of diseases and insect pests. Preferred
Qualifications:
Completion of Game of Logging, S212 or equivalent; completion of Federal wildland fire training:
S130/190, L180 and S212; experience as a sawyer crew boss; and experience with small engine repair.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
